Do the hustle. Mach 2 strategic bomber with nuclear size payload? Built from aluminum honeycomb and fiberglass structure it was well advanced for its day, but was only viable for a few years during the height of cold war escalation. B-58s were on "alert" during the Cuban missile crisis.
The B-58 was advanced and introduced a number of things to flight:
From !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
1): Astro tracker - would automatically track a selected star and feed the data into the nav. equipment.
2). voice warning system — if a malfunction occurred a light would go on telling you what it was and a girl's voice would also begin to tell you what it was.
3). in-flight printer tape — this would start at the beginning of flight and record latitude, longitude, airspeed, altitude, etc. so that an evaluator could completely follow your flight after you landed. I believe this to be an early cockpit recorder.
4). automatic fuel and c.g. control — you would dial in whatever center of gravity you desired, switch to Automatic and the fuel would continually be moved to maintain that desired CG.
5). auto pilot —- most aircraft had one but this you could engage in any mode of flight and it would maintain altitude, speed, mach, or any combination of these. Also the Nav. could fly the aircraft in elevation as well as azimuth.

Runway? I don't need a runway.
I need sixteen miles of freeway, motherfucker. But once I get up there, I'm as stable as... no, you're right.
You ever see a bird, building its nest? And it's got way too much crap crammed in it's beak, but it's trying to get it all back to it's nest site? That's what a loaded B-58 has always reminded me of. That, or something that belongs in space where the physics of flight aren't a big deal.
Sweet motherfucking speed bomber though.
